#SCHICKESCAPE: THE CHIC GIRL’S GUIDE TO ACCRA

Ghana’s most populous city, Accra, is filled with mystery and unique entertainment away from its rooted culture. From eating authentic Japanese food at Santoku to understanding the memory of its founding fathers at the era of civilisation at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, it is a small city with big possibilities and experiences. Accra is developing into a megacity, with new hot spots being erected by the day. With breathtaking bars and ‘Instagrammable‘ spots, these are the ultimate guide to being chic in Accra.

The Hotel: Fiesta Residences

Fiesta Residences is a unique combination of luxurious boutique hotel and serviced apartments in Accra, designed around guests’ busy lifestyles and exacting standards. The hotel’s attractive interior is a fine balance between modern elegance and cosy luxury.

The Restaurant: Santoku

With Santoku, contemporary and sophisticated Japanese dining arrives in West Africa. The fine dining restaurant offers the delights of world-class Asian fusion cuisine in an environment crafted by international talent. The team behind Nobu in London and Dubai worked with Santoku to create a range of dishes, from Otsumami snacks and Zensai sharing dishes to soups and noodles.

The Museum: Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park

The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park is a stunning edifice erected in memory of Osagyefo (the Messiah) Doctor Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president and one of its founding fathers. Built on a former British polo field, it was the point where Nkrumah declared independence in 1957. The park consists of five acres of land and holds a museum tracing Nkrumah’s life. There are many personal items on display, but the centrepiece is the mausoleum, Nkrumah and his wife’s final resting place. Tours in English can be taken. Kwame Nkrumah is an essential part of Ghana’s history and a good half-hour here will fill you in on most of the details. Events are held on Independence Anniversary celebrations on 6 March and the Celebration of Emancipation Day on 1 August.

The Bar: Sky Bar 25

Sky Bar 25 is a new bar redefining the drinking experience in Accra. Perched at the very top of the imposing and magnificent Villaggio Alto tower, Sky Bar is an exclusive upscale venue catering for customers looking for an esteemed night out with the best gins and tonics.
