#SCHICKWOMAN: MARIA BORGES IS OUR AFRICAN TIFFANY QUEEN

Draped in custom-made Tiffany Amber Couture Torera Basket Weave dress and Imani belt for Victoria’s Secret pink carpet party in Shanghai, you can tell that 24-year-old Angolan-born supermodel, Maria Borges is truly an African queen. Proudly representing the continent, this iconic supermodel is a trendsetter who always paves the way for others to follow. With a stellar modelling career and a history of firsts, Maria Borges is our #SCHICKWoman this week! Being the first black model to ever walk in the 2015 Victoria’s Secret (VS) fashion show whilst wearing her natural afro hair and the first African woman to feature on the cover of Elle America, 20 years after Sudanese model Alek Wek in 1997, she has come a long way from her times in Angola during the civil war and being raised by her older sister.

Now her fortunate??influence has passed on to Nigerian fashion designer Tiffany Amber, who now becomes the first African brand to grace the VS pink carpet. Joining other iconic supermodels on the 2017 VS Fashion Show in China, she strutted both on and off the runway and the??L???Or??al Paris global ambassador has earned her place in the lineup of models.

Borges was discovered when she participated in the Elite Model Look Angola contest. She didn???t win, but it was enough for her to get signed??with Luanda-based agency STEP Models, which subsequently enabled her to work overseas in Lisbon, where the model is currently signed with We Are Models. What followed was a move Stateside, a Givenchy campaign in 2013 which took her career to new heights. We can’s wait to see what she does next!
