As against the square-toed, shiny-buckled variations of the 1990s, the modern monk strap shoes are sleeker, more subtle and worn by dapper Pitti-goers and regular style conscious men. In fact, monk straps were originally embraced by their namesake, the monks, in Europe centuries ago, for far more practical reasons.
