SCHICK Magazine teams up with the powerful vocalist, who is changing her look for the new season! We present Seyi Shay as our first muse for S/S 18 collections from three seasoned African Designers: DNA by Iconic Invanity, Gozel Green, and Moofa. With a new movie called ‘Lara and the Beat‘ by Biola Alabi Media out early next year, fresh music and a new look to match, Seyi Shay is the perfect fit.

On a Having a Great Year So Far:

“I am one for evolving my sound, filling gaps and trying to see what interesting sounds can work well together and 2017 was definitely my year for my personal projects ‘Yolo Yolo’, ‘Weekend Vibes’ and ‘Your Matter’ which was my first official single under Island Records, the label I’m signed to in the UK . These singles are pretty much about appreciating everything and everywhere that you might be at the time, appreciating your past and what it has made you into and looking forward to the future.”

On Her Current Projects:

“I am currently working on a movie, my first movie ever called Lara and the Beat and we are working with a crew from Los Angeles and Venezuela and the cast consists of Somkele and vector who are my Co-stars and other famous faces like Aki and that film comes out in the cinemas and on Netflix in May. I’m really looking forward to that and it’s really exciting, I’m still shooting and it’s a really great project and something different for me but I’m really enjoying the experience. This year I’m also up for the AFRIMA awards nominated in four categories and I’m really looking forward to winning at least one. I recently rebranded my image and cut my hair. I’m hoping my fans will be able to enjoy the new look and new sounds that I’ve dropped this year”

On Her Personal Style:

“My personal style is really quite boho chic. I like to keep it fresh and young but still unique to me and I feel like me cutting my hair really fits well with the direction that we are moving into with my style. I recently did a photoshoot with Emmanuel Oyeleke who is a renowned photographer and details in pictures of behind the scenes can be seen on my website”

On Designers She’s Currently Loving:

“The designers I’m currently loving are designers like Iconic Invanity, Deola Sagoe. I’ve always loved Maki Oh because she’s so fresh and I’m also really loving SGTC Clothing which a new label by an African Designer. I’m in love with a Designer from South Africa called Zarth, they design and make the most fabulous evening dresses and even daytime dresses if you don’t want to look too glam. I just love African fashion in general and I am an advocate for all my African designers, I wear them all the time no matter where I am”
