Angel Obasi is aptly known as the ‘Style Connaisseur’ on her highly influential Instagram page. She is a Nigerian born Instablogger/style influencer who has been active since 2016. Being a lover of curating and creating content, she decided to start an Instagram blog where she could post some of her obsessions, interests, her impressive style and her day to day activities with a few like-minded individuals. She has gotten the privilege to work with some of the best people in the fashion industry, attended elite events, featured in campaigns and very recently sat on a panel with some of the industry’s jewels at the just concluded Social Media Week.
Her goal is to successfully present herself and her brand to a vast number of people without losing her sense of self or why she started in the first instance. She confirms that if you are consistent and committed you can achieve anything and prove fashion can get you anywhere and everywhere!
In this “My Chic Style Feature” we speak to Angel on style inspiration, photography tips and closet obsessions, enjoy!
Q1: What items in your closet are you obsessed with?
I would definitely say my Jewelry
Q2: What is your favourite onsite and offsite store?
I honestly hate shopping online because of the wait and how long it takes to be delivered, so I would rather just make someone go to the store for me, if I can’t go myself at the time or if I am not in that country, but for on-site stores, I love Shopmaju in Nigeria and Mae Otti, offsite Shop Esosa because of their excellent delivery.
Q3: Who is your celebrity style crush?
Victoria Beckham, Majorie Harvey, Bella Hadid & Kendall Jenner
Q4: What are your go-to fashion accessories?
Q5: What inspires your style every day?
Wherever I have to be at a given time influences my style. I dress according to where I have to be.
Q6: Can you give an aspiring blogger three photography tips?
I would say;
1. Be as intentional as possible, if you don’t have a camera and would have to work with a photographer, make sure you are not a novice. Know and understand your angles, let your photographer know what you like and how you would love to be taken.
2. When it comes to editing, make sure you are involved. Avoid over editing e.g making the sky extra blue. It is not appealing to the eyes.
3. Make sure to shoot between 4 – 5 pm for people who live in a hotter region. At this time, the sun is not so hot and there is a great chance your picture won’t be too sharp..
Q7: Everyone loves a good deal, where are some of your favourite places to find budget buys? What items do you feel are worth splurging on?
Zara has some of the best deals every year and occasionally River Island too. But if you don’t want to wait that long, ShopMaju did have an overhaul making most of their pieces a lot cheaper, I think the sales are currently going on right now. So you might want to check them out shopmaju.com. I personally splurge on shoes and jewellery.
Q8: What trends are you loving right now? Which trends do you want to see disappear?
For me, it would have to be Vinyl coats. I honestly would say the monochrome edits being added to photos needs to go. I don’t understand the concept and most times, it is shabbily done making the content tasteless. Just my opinion.
Q9: What’s the best style advice you’ve received?
“No outfit is ugly with the right accessories”- My mom
Q10: Define your personal style in three words.
Elegant, bold and sexy.
