Beautiful, Stylish Mayhem, that’s how I would describe my backstage experience at Arise fashion week 2018. The much-anticipated fashion experience brought a myriad of Africa’s most talented designers and some of the most exciting names in fashion, from Naomi Campbell to Imaan. From Scampering half-naked models, racks and racks of gorgeous clothing, nervous designers, lights, camera’s, loads of action, and of course the production team is screaming at everyone and their nan, backstage was a glorious pandemonium.

Amidst the chaos, was an even more fabulously chaotic scene, racks of what I can only describe as the world’s most outrageously unique clothing, yes I’m talking about the Quiteria and George collection. Extravagant ruffles, gorgeous silhouettes, see-through mesh, vintage opulence…the list goes on.  I watched in awe as Quiteria and George fitted their models, each model transformed instantly, the pieces adding stylish eclectic power and sex appeal. Oh, how I would love to have been clad in those pieces.

And then it was Showtime. I ran excitedly to the main hall, I couldn’t bear to miss a thing, the lights dimmed, the music started and the first model came out, one word: breath-taking. Each outfit that graced the runway was somehow more beautiful than the last. Uju Marshall gave us regal chic as she walked in a ruffled layered green ball gown complete with statement earrings while Oluchi Orlandi closed the show in style in a show-stopping purple ensemble. Quiteria and George came out to pay their respects and it was all applause and affirmations of the magic that is this collection. Definitely one of my favourite’s at Arise fashion week, and I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us. View the whole experience in our gallery.
