As a black queen, exfoliation should be at the top of our skincare routine, this is because the build-up of dead skin cells can reduce your natural glow and make you look dull, grey and ashy. Exfoliation removes the oldest dead skin cells and deep cleanses the skin, hence why it is so important. Also, experts believe that the process removes the build-up in your pores and helps breakup whiteheads, leaving the skin looking smooth and naturally glowing.

The steps to exfoliate the right way

Now it is important that we exfoliate our faces the right way. Firstly, with exfoliating, it’s best we concentrate on the areas where the skin appears flaky, dull, dry and uneven, i.e. those dry patches of skin. Next, we shouldn’t be heavy-handed when exfoliating, a little goes a long way, using upward circular motions is believed to be the best way to exfoliate. Lastly, once you’re done with the process of exfoliating, ensure you hydrate using a moisturizer. These three steps with have your skin looking brighter and smoother.

Important things to note

However, with exfoliating, we need to be extra careful to avoid over-exfoliating. This is especially if you have sensitive skin, as it could aggravate your skin and we do not want that. That’s why experts advise that we exfoliate at least once a week and at most twice weekly. Also, it is not just for our faces but our bodies as well. It is one of those processes that should be a habit if we want to have instantly soft skin. As exfoliators can be harsh on the skin sometimes, it is vital we use the right exfoliator for our skin type and ensure they are gentle to the skin, remember we don’t want to aggravate our skin.
