HOW TO ACHIEVE A SUMMER GLOW WITH YOUR MELANIN SKIN

How time flies! From happy New Year! To summer peeping at the corner, and we know the habitual plans that come with the summer: personal and collective goals loading… talk of summer body, popping skin, vacations, turn-ups, beach shoots, how can we not mention summer pool parties! Hmmm, it’s not an easy “sturvs” *Falz’s voice.

So, let’s discuss how to achieve popping skin for our melanin dripping ladies. First of all, take a minute to visualize your skin emitting radiance and shimmer this summer, the gaze and stare that trails a glowing skin especially in a hot bikini (they are not ready for what’s coming!)… makeup wouldn’t even be a necessity except you want something light to fulfill ‘glam righteousness’.

We know how intense the sun can be during this season, the struggle of not sweating too much just because we need our face beat to stay in place, primers and setting spray sell faster during this period but the ‘anti melting’ dilemma can’t be dealt with every time, hence, the ardent need for a healthy looking skin.

Summertime is the period we all need to show off a fresh looking skin, being that on some days we will certainly not be in a glam mood -going out makeup free shouldn’t be a challenge, hence it is important to fight against or prevent skin problems such as clogged pores, large visible pores, breakouts, blemishes, sunburn, discoloration, under eye bags, wrinkles, dull skin and so on.

Here are tips for dark-skinned x brownies to achieve that summer glow… Don’t expect skin perfection overnight if you are new to these tips, however, look forward to popping skin… be consistent and patient in order to achieve maximum result.

WATER

I know you’re probably thinking “noo… not again! Lool yes again! This may sound cliché but we can’t overemphasize the importance of taking in enough water regularly…water flushes out toxins and improves one’s complexion; yes, you read that clearly. It enhances your skin tone by keeping your skin moisturized and soft. It is recommended that women drink 11 cups of fluid per day! Get to drinking ladies!

BODY SCRUB

We’re all about exfoliation to get the skin set for the summer…if you have chosen to sleep on this, it’s best you wake up now and get scrubbing. Remove those dead skin layers trying to stop your shine and polish that body to look like a freshly washed wine glass *winkwink* Skincare is self-care and treating yourself to a pamper routine is essential to optimal health.

BODY OIL

Get a wholesome Glow!

Oil is the perfect antidote for dry, flaky and rough looking skin. It is used in treating skin infections, to reduce the appearance of scars, stretch marks amongst other skin issues. Oil is a more effective moisturizer than regular lotion and cream- some lubricants act as natural toners plus they eliminate skin inflammation. You can decide to apply it on damp skin or alternatively infuse the oil in a lotion/cream. Oils like coconut oil, olive, almond, Shea, turmeric, peppermint, avocado, jojoba amongst other natural oils, need to be present in your skincare routine. People tend to focus mostly on their faces, forgetting that skincare is a broad-spectrum. Pay attention to the other parts of your body… the radiance needs to be whole.

 ROSEWATER AS A TONER

There is more to rose water than you think…

Enhance your complexion with a mild toner as a harsh toner tends to do quite the opposite when applied to a sensitive skin. Rosewater is a natural toner, it helps maintain the skin’s pH balance, controls excess oil, possesses anti-inflammatory properties and cleans the pores due to its astringent properties. Love the natural way?  Then get you some rose water!

EYE CREAM

No one likes saggy eye bags and a tired looking face, need I mention the most dreaded under eye concern dark circles! It gives an impression of the whole world being on one’s shoulders (you definitely know what we are talking about).  Makeup concealers aren’t so friendly on sun-drenched days, therefore, it is of utmost importance we have that eye area illuminated by getting an effective rejuvenating and correcting eye cream that will eliminate puffiness, dark circles and wrinkles. For those who do not get enough sleep at night… here is to faking a good night rest.

SUNSCREEN

How can we not mention the next best shield from the Sun after a fully air-conditioned car! Sunscreen is an underrated skin product in this part of the world; most people aren’t aware of how important it is to input sunscreen in their daily skin routine. Sunscreen is a must-have; as it prevents sunburn, eliminates dry patches and protects the skin from Ultra Violet rays. If you love the organic life, Aloe Vera gel is a good alternative to sunscreen.
