Yanga Yaya is his stage name, but to patients, Dr Yanga Andrew Madlala is the name on his coat. As much as he lights up the stage with music and dance when he is off stage, South Africa’s Yaya is saving lives as a practicing professional medical doctor. The young doctor completed his community service in Msinga at the Church of Scotland hospital and now works as an independent medical practitioner at the TB/HIV Care Association, an NGO in Cape Town. Madlala says he chose to study medicine mostly for the love of helping the most vulnerable in rural communities.
With a style that is minimalist but with pops of colour, our SCHICK Man is not afraid to experiment. Drawing influences from afrocentric to bohemian to hipsters, he attempts it all and continues to kill it effortlessly.
