FASHION DESIGNER SILVIA ULSON ALEGEDLY PLAGARISES NIGERIAN DESIGNER, BFYNE’S 2017 SAHARA COLLECTION AT MIAMI SWIM WEEK

In case you didn’t know, both plagiarism and appropriation still exist in the fashion industry. A representative of Bfyne, the label owned by Nigerian-American designer Buki Ade, is claiming that Brazilian designer Silvia Ulson plagiarized Bfyne’s SS17 “Sahara” collection for Ulson’s recent collection shown at Miami Swim Week.

According to BFYNE media director John Adele, “during Miami Swim-week … Silvia Ulson featured Bfyne’s SS17 Sahara collection during her show. It comes to us as a surprise as to how another designer is allowed to showcase replicas, and claiming it as her original work during swim week.”

For reference, you can see one of Bfyne’s suits on the left and Ulson’s ― which were paired with feathered headdresses ― on the right: We must admit, the case against Ulson is very strong. Not only are the prints almost identical, but the cuts also appear to be the same.
What do you think SCHICK Stars, inspiration or replication?
